People on windows got this problem too, but they can use windows registry to find and change the registry key and that fixes the problem. Bethesda decided at somepoint around 2017 they were going to update new vegas, which then made the launcher unable to find the registry key and stop it from finding and launching the game files. I'm actually running fallout nv through steamplay, that's not the problem. I'll read through it's details properly soon. If you run into more problems the WineHQ website may have more clues from other users as to workarounds or fixes. With Valve releasing its handheld PC game console Steam Deck end of year, which runs Linux, it's pushing ever more on making Steam Play work well for Windows games.Īnyway, got sidetracked sorry, you should also be able to get the game to run with Wine. Not all games work well but you can check on and Fallout New Vegas has a Platinum rating there so should work excellent. Steam has it's own builtin Wine with improvements called Proton and you don't have to set up anything for that, just enable Steam Play for all titles through settings and that lets you run Windows games from your Steam library on Linux. I note that it's usually easier to play Windows games through Steam. As for which key to tweak, hopefully you know that. Searching for "wine regedit" finds as first hit.
